Northgate Library, Community Center & Civic Park

Firm:
The Miller Hull Partnership

A 10,000 sq. ft. Branch Library in an established city neighborhood shares a 3.5 acre site with a 20,000 sq. ft. Community Center, Day Care and civic park. The site was formerly a tire repair center and was asphalted. A central plaza with play area links the library and Community Center. Multiple entrances provide pedestrian access from the neighborhood.

The Library is pushed up to an active retail street sidewalk and bus stop on the west. To the south, a 12 ft. overhang protects a glazed reading area looking out over the park.

The community Center sits back from the street. Glazed activity rooms look out west to the park. Large overhangs and a rain garden provide shading. The gym and large multi-purpose room share an interior ramped street that organizes the plan.

The structural system is expressed steel and wood decking at the roof.
