A Waldorf elementary school is expanding on a developed site in an urbanizing, suburban area. Existing buildings will be remodeled with new buildings added incrementally, allowing school to remain operational. Site and building design address the unique aspects of Waldorf education and the school community’s desire to steward the existing forested site. A grouping of modestly scaled buildings respond to site topography, forming outdoor play and gathering spaces, reducing site impacts and energy use.
