Cusabo Island Cabin

Firm:
Woollen|Studio, inc.

Sited within the Low Country Barrier Islands of the South Carolina Coast, the Cusabo Island cabin had the initial restrictions of no site access and no utilities. The response is a prefabricated structure working with the environment to impact the site as little as possible.

Raised on stilts to keep above the flood zone and touch the site as lightly as possible, the largely prefabricated structure will be assembled in a matter of weeks to minimize site disturbance. Green technologies such as passive solar, water catchment, photovoltaics, and natural ventilation create a smarter response to construction on remote sites.
